Discover what you know...

Therapy from your couch

Therapy discovers what you never knew you knew.

Therapy is a process of discovering certain relationships, capacities, and wisdom that emerges from reflecting on experience in the world.

This client spoke about the grace she offers herself when she is overly-ambitious about what she wants to learn and experience.

Grace.

Grace is something I have to offer myself regularly too. For me it is coming back to reality and truth. “It’s not that she isn’t interested in a relationship, it’s just a crazy time right now, with COVID on the loose and quarantine. Just be patient and realize everything is fine, and it will be what it will be in time.

Grace shows me the bigger picture.

Grace says that I don’t have to be perfect, nor does anyone or anything in my life. Grace says “just do the next right thing.” Grace is kind, gentle. Grace shows me how I deserve to be treated: with respect and curiosity. Grace doesn’t judge a person or situation, it asks Christians gathering for Church on an Easter Sunday during COVID quarantine: ‘What makes this make sense to you?’ And Grace is wise because it hears in response: ‘It was a hard decision between offending society and offending my God. So I chose to offend society…not because I wanted to, but because I had been doing so much to be safe, and I just wanted to show God how devoted I am.’ Grace is patient in that way that sees when people are in a bind—caught in the tension between two seemingly necessary evils, or when someone is just trying to do their best, honestly, and it is just too much sometimes…the kids, the work, the prejudice, the injustice, the misrepresentation of who they are as a person and misunderstanding of their actions.

“You can only grow as fast as you can grow.”

Just allow Grace and Patience to visit with you in the silence of your own heart, and see what peace they can offer you.
